Trump Pledges $5,000 Dividend for Every U.S. Adult If Republicans Win Midterm Elections

U.S. President Donald Trump has pledged to give every adult American citizen $5,000 if Republicans retain control of Congress in the November midterm elections.

Trump announced the proposed “Trump dividend” during a speech at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, where he urged his party to secure victory at the polls.

The president provided few details about the proposed payment, saying it would be available only to U.S. citizens and would have to be spent within the country. He said the programme would be funded by what he described as America’s “tremendous economic success.”

Trump compared the proposed payment to the $1,776 given to members of the U.S. military in 2025. However, that payment was actually tied to a military housing stipend that had already been approved by Congress, rather than a new programme created by Trump.

With roughly 240 million adult U.S. citizens, the proposed $5,000 payment could cost the government about $1.2 trillion.

The announcement has already drawn skepticism over how such a massive payout would be financed. Republican Congressman Chip Roy of Texas questioned the proposal, noting that the cost would likely exceed $1 trillion.

A Republican operative also criticized the plan, describing it as a possible attempt to shift the political mood ahead of the midterm elections.
