Today Is International Day Of Zero Tolerance To Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).

TODAY IS INTERNATIONAL DAY of “ZERO TOLERANCE to FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION ”

This year’s Theme is “Unleashing Youth Power”

The theme centres around making young people to be in charge of promoting the campaign to stop FGM in Nigeria. With adequate information, youths can help to promote health issues and be advocate in stopping the harmful practices of FGM.

Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female genital cutting and female circumcision, is the ritual cutting or removal of some or all of the external female genitalia.
The practice is found in Africa, Asia and the Middle East, and within communities from countries in which FGM is common.
Over 200 million women and girls in 27 African countries and 1/2 million in Europe are affected worldwide in Female Genital Mutilation.
The President of European Commission today tweeted, “No Custom, Tradition, Culture or Religion Justifies this Dangerous and Barbaric Act. This severe human right Violation must End. Enough is Enough. #EndFGM”

Is a violation to girls and women rights.
It has been viewed as not having any benefit to the woman but comes with so much health risks.
Such as, Recurrent Urinary, Vaginal Infections, Chronic pain, Infertility, Hemorrhaging, Epidermoid Cyst, Difficult Labor etc.
FGM affects Sexual Sensitivity and leads to Sexual Problems such as,
Decreased Sexual Desires and Pleasure, Pain during Sex, Difficulty during Penetration, Deceased lubrication during Intercourse etc.
