Nigeria’s Okonjo-Iweala Awarded With Honorary Degree By Uzbekistan Varsity

The Director General of the World Trade Organisation, Dr Ngozi Onkonjo-Iweala, has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

The former Nigerian Minister of Finance disclosed this in a post on X.com on Wednesday, adding that she also delivered a lecture on “Why the WTO Matters for Uzbekistan.”

She wrote, “Immensely appreciative of the Honorary Doctorate Degree Award of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan and pleased to give a well received lecture on ‘Why the WTO matters for Uzbekistan.”

Okonjo-Iweala further expressed her delight to have been received by the WTO Chair, Professor Umid Yakubkhodjaev, and the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate and Rector of University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Sodyq Safoev.

She added, “I was particularly proud to be received by the WTO Chair Professor Umid Yakubkhodjaev, the faculty and brilliant students.

“A privilege to be hosted by Prof #SodyqSafoev, First Deputy Chairman of the Senate and Rector of University of World Economy and Diplomacy, who said ‘Trade is not only about the exchange of goods and services, it is also about the exchange of ideas and values’. So true!”
