Family Rejects Army Account Over Death of NYSC Member in Abuja

The family of a slain National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member has rejected the Nigerian Army’s explanation of how their son died during a security operation in Abuja, insisting that the official account does not reflect what actually happened.

On 27 April 2026, the family of Abdulsamad Jamiu disputed the military’s claim that he was killed during a crossfire between troops and suspected armed robbers in the Dei-Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory. The Army had earlier stated that soldiers responded to a distress call and that the corps member was accidentally caught in the exchange of gunfire.

However, relatives maintain that the circumstances surrounding his death were different, alleging that he was shot inside his residence during a military operation in the area.
