Amid Crackdown On Fake Drugs, NAFDAC DG Raises Alarm Over Death Threats

The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, has revealed serious threats to her life and agency staff as they intensify efforts against the fake drug trade.

At a State House briefing in Abuja, she disclosed that NAFDAC recently seized over N1 trillion worth of illegal drugs in its biggest operation ever, targeting major drug markets in Aba and Onitsha. Among the confiscated items were expired and substandard medical products, including donated antiretroviral drugs and contraceptives.

Prof. Adeyeye also shared shocking details about security risks, including a kidnapping attempt on an employee’s child and the need for constant police protection.

“I have police officers with me 24/7 in Abuja and Lagos. But we must save our country,” she stated.

Her relentless fight mirrors the legacy of late Prof. Dora Akunyili, who faced similar threats in her war against counterfeit drugs. Like Akunyili, Prof. Adeyeye remains undeterred, calling for stricter penalties to eliminate this dangerous trade.

She is urging the government to act fast to protect Nigerians from the deadly consequences of fake drugs.
