A 25-year-old Zambian model and socialite, Lisa Mutambo, has died after reportedly falling ill and losing consciousness at her residence in Lusaka’s Kalundu area following a night out with friends.
Police said Mutambo had spent the evening with two female friends at a hotel where she worked as an ambassador before the three women left at about 10.30pm to continue socialising at another drinking spot.
According to police, between 2.30am and 3am, Mutambo’s boyfriend, identified as Caleb Lisa, also known as Andrea, picked up the three women.
He later dropped the two friends off in the Minestone/Casanova area before returning to Kalundu with Mutambo, where they were staying.
Police said Mutambo began vomiting after arriving at the residence and subsequently became unconscious.
Her boyfriend reportedly contacted a friend, who helped take her to Victoria Hospital. She was pronounced dead on arrival.
The death was reported to Chelstone Police Station at about 9.30am on Thursday. Police said Mutambo was believed to have died between 3.30am and 4.30am at the hospital.
Her death has generated attention on social media, with earlier claims alleging that she had been beaten to death by her boyfriend.
However, police said no visible physical injuries were observed on Mutambo’s body.
Officers examined both the primary and secondary scenes as part of their investigation. Her body was initially taken to FSG Mortuary before being transferred to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
Police have opened an inquiry file as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the model’s sudden death.
